Recycle Used Oil and Filters

Used Oil Center at Rock Prairie Road Landfill

At the entrance way to the landfill is a used oil collection drop off center where used oil and oil filters can be disposed of free of charge. Why should you recycle used motor oil? One 42-gallon barrel of crude oil makes 2-1/2 quarts of motor oil, while it only takes one gallon of used motor oil to make the same 2-1/2 quarts. One gallon of motor oil can contaminate one million gallons of drinking water. What happens after you recycle motor oil? Used motor oil is reprocessed and sold as industrial burner fuel, refined into gasoline and home heating oil, or re-refined into new motor oil.
