Proper Disposal of Prescription Drugs

Federal Guidelines:

• Keep unused, unwanted, or expired prescription drugs in their original containers with the name of the medication in tact. Mark through or remove personal information such as names.
• Mixing prescription drugs with an undesirable substance, such as used coffee grounds or kitty litter, and putting them in impermeable, non-descript containers, such as empty coffee cans or sealable bags, will further ensure the drugs are not diverted.
• DO NOT Flush prescription drugs down the toilet.
• Prescription drugs WILL BE accepted at the semi-annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection events.

** Unless the label instructs differently, unused prescription drugs should be disposed of in the trash.
